Düsseldorf-based Uniper is a European energy company with global reach and operations in more than 40 countries. With around 7,500 employees, Uniper makes an important contribution to energy security in Europe, particularly in its core markets Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Uniper’s business activities include flexible power generation in Europe, global energy trading, and a broad gas portfolio. Through investments in renewable energy, hydrogen, and other low-carbon energy carriers, Uniper is also driving the transformation of the energy system.

On January 1, 2016, Uniper began its journey as an independent energy company. Over the past decade, the company has taken responsibility in a rapidly changing global environment, navigating crises while actively driving the transformation of the energy system.

In 2021, Uniper initiated its phased exit from coal, marking a decisive step toward a lower-carbon future. During the energy crisis of 2022, Uniper delivered Germany’s first LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven in record time, significantly strengthening security of supply. In 2023, the company launched a new strategy focused on growth, operational excellence, and transformation.

Uniper’s mission remains clear: to secure reliable and competitive energy supply while enabling the transition to a sustainable energy system. This is supported by:

  • Approx. 19.5 GW of generation capacity and around 80 TWh of storage capacity
  • Long-term gas and LNG contracts enhancing system resilience
  • Investments in decarbonization projects, including the Happurg pumped storage plant, Energy Park Bad Lauchstädt, and the ammonia cracking demonstration plant in Gelsenkirchen-Scholven
