Responsible for the implementation and execution of corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance in all areas of the process including, but not limited to, District Heating plant rooms and pumping stations, District Heating pipework Networks, Heat Metering equipment, boilers and turbines. Reporting directly to the District Heating Network Manager to ensure that the maintenance department delivers a safe, effective and efficient service.

Key Responsibilities

Lead of the Network maintenance team, mentoring the progression of any apprentice and team members throughout.
Organisation and implementation of a regime for the Statutory inspection plant, including preparation works, shut-down and re-commissioning of District Heating plant, preparation and issue of Permits to Work.
To assist in the strategic development of the Pirana maintenance philosophy at Enviroenergy by implementing new maintenance techniques and procedures directed at increasing the overall plant availability.
Compile and maintain O & M records for the District Heating Network, plant rooms and pumping stations.
To be directly involved in the planning stages of all planned outages, requiring direct liaison with the District Heating Network Manager, Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, Electrical and Mechanical Team Leaders, to ensure outage time schedules and specific maintenance programmes are completed on time and within budget.
Source spares and replacement components.
Direct supervision/liaison with sub-contractors either as a general additional maintenance resource or through specific maintenance contracts.
To deputise for the District Heating Network Manager when required and assist with LRHS breakdowns from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

Recognised qualification in mechanical engineering (HNC or Equivalent).
The ideal candidate shall have experience and knowledge of the inspection and testing of Pressure Systems, District Heating and steam pipework systems, heat generation, control and heat transfer equipment.
Fault finding, replacement and repairs to pumps, control and isolation valves.
Experience and knowledge associated with the safe isolation and re-commissioning of plant for the issue of Permits to Work
Knowledge of LOLER requirements
Medium Risk Confined Space entry and PASMA mobile tower trained
Streetworks Qualification for Signing and Guarding within the Highway.
Experience with variable speed drives, PID controllers, temperature and pressure control systems using 0-10V and 4-20mA signals an advantage.

Personal Qualities

Must be out going, positive and proactive, approachable and able to negotiate difficult situations and conversations at all levels, from members of the public to the plant manager.
The person will shall be able to provide support and assistance to the existing team members and also be able to work alone.
Availability for call out on rota and a driving license is essential.

Anticipated salary is £34,373 rising to £36,371 on the first anniversary.

• Experience in developing energy and greenhouse gas emissions models and calculations using MS Excel and/or other software packages
• Macro writing or other programming languages such as advanced MS Excel skills, Python, Grasshopper or FME.
• EnergyPro or similar energy system modelling software
• Familiarity with Revit and/or AutoCAD
• Excellent graphic design and presentational skills.
• Develop bespoke methodologies to solve complex problems

The role of Project Manager – Commercial Energy will join a team which includes Manchester City Council officers and external consultants to manage Commercial Energy Projects for the city. The first of which is the Manchester Heat Network a District Heat Energy Centre which will provide heat and power to several key buildings within the Civic Quarter of the city.

The role will include managing the day to day activities including management of customers and billing, financial monitoring, performance reporting, managing the various contractual and service level agreements and the purchasing of gas as required. You will be working with appointed consultants on the technical performance and development of the network ensuring the heat network is able to operate at its optimum level.

The person appointed will also play a key role in the governance of Manchester Heat Network and provide a conduit for the Non-Executive Directors and appropriate city council services to ensure the smooth operation of the business.

​In addition to this the role will support the Contract and Commissioning Lead in the purchase and implementation of a Large Scale Renewable Energy Project (Solar Farm), this projects due to complete by October 2023 at which point the appointee will play vital role in ensuring the appropriate Power Purchase Arrangements are in place, as well as maintenance and operation of the site by procurement of an asset management and maintenance arrangement.

​Manchester Heat Network and the Large Scale Renewable Energy Project are part of the city council’s response to the Climate Emergency and its ambition to be net zero carbon by2038. The role will need someone who has both good commercial and project manager skills. We are looking for a candidate that is comfortable in a multi-faceted, fast paced environment and brings with them demonstrable knowledge of district heating and renewable energy.
