Over the last decade, AECOM’s sustainable development group has been heavily involved in the delivery of heat network projects across the UK. We are currently involved in 50 major schemes ranging from feasibility to construction and have delivered over 20 resilient heat networks that remain in use today.

Through this work AECOM have built a considerable amount of experience and have contributed to the development of Decentralised Energy (DE) in the U.K through technical guidance and industry leadership. We are the co-authors of the Heat Network CP1 (Code of Practice) and guidance documents such as the BEIS Detailed Project Development (DPD) Guide for Heat Networks. In 2018 AECOM were selected by BEIS to be their delivery partner on the £300m HNIP project, which is expected to further promote district energy in the UK.

Environment

Understanding that effective environmental management contributes to a society’s quality of life, AECOM are committed to helping clients make proactive environmental management an integral part of their daily operations.

AECOM has proven success in helping public- and private-sector customers solve challenges in air, water and land quality, waste management and environmental planning, compliance and cleanup. For assistance with assuring regulatory compliance, developing pro-active environmental management programs, siting a treatment, storage or disposal facility or cleaning up a contaminated property or waterway, AECOM offers the environmental expertise to achieve strategic goals. Natural resources will be conserved, environmental risk reduced, communities protected, and goodwill built with critical stakeholders.

Clients include industrial and commercial companies; government agencies (municipal, regional and national), institutions, and public and private utilities. They have challenged AECOM to resolve some of the world’s toughest environmental problems, and we’ve delivered the required results at every stage of the projects.

Every day AECOM is helping customers take positive steps to reduce environment-related risks and liabilities; and while the environment is everyone’s concern we make it their priority.

Government

AECOM partners with the public sector at all levels, throughout Europe. In the UK, they are engaged with many of the country’s largest public-funded projects including the London 2012 Olympic Park and its legacy development; Crossrail; and HS2.

They are working for national and local government in the education, healthcare, residential, transportation and cultural sectors. They understand the challenge of delivering complex and sustainable developments under the dual pressures of shrinking budgets and intense public scrutiny.

They offer multi-disciplinary teams. They include engineers, asset managers, planners, project and cost managers, economists, environmental specialists, scientists and programme managers. Their teams work with clients to maximise the potential of every scheme, within tight deadlines and budgets.

They have reflected on our recent experience in some thought leadership pieces published in Civil Service World. The topics covered range from working towards a leaner, greener government and infrastructure, through to learning lessons from the water industry and the Olympics and the real value of collaborative working.
